SBA's Spring 2018 Appeal
Supporting SBA's Spring/Summer Campaign
There are nearly 200,000 individuals living in the United States with Spina Bifida (more than half of whom are adults). Medical advances in treatment and care have enabled children born with this birth defect to live longer and healthier lives. But as a result, we now have a growing population of adults in desperate need of resources, services, and physicians to treat them.
Did you know that there are more than 80 clinics in the U.S. that serve children with Spina Bifida, but only 20 that serve adults? Did you know that many members of the Spina Bifida community have to travel extreme distances to obtain the care they need or they wind up seeing pediatricians well into adulthood because they can't find a doctor in their area who is familiar with their condition?
We are also losing adults in our community, and we don't know why. What starts out as a urinary tract infection can lead to renal failure. Life threatening wounds can lead to sepsis. Then there are those who simply go to sleep and never wake up.
None of this is ok.
Since 1973, the Spina Bifida Association (SBA) has been a voice for the Spina Bifida community, and we believe that we have a moral imperative to do something about these adult crises.
Your tax-deductible gift today will allow us to raise awareness about these pressing concerns and expand much needed research. In addition, your donation will fund advocacy, education, and support efforts that enhance the lives of those living with the birth defect throughout the United States.
